How do I get my life story out there and make money at the same time?

So you want to tell your story? We’ve all got one inside us! But you want to tell it and you want to get it out there, perhaps make some money on the side? Awesome! Let’s discuss.

This was a question from Quora that I answered. If you’d like to follow me on Quora, head over here to keep up to date with my literary journey.

Hi! My name is Christopher Sergi. I’m a novelist and a blogger going through the same journey you are: being a writer! Feel free to comment your thoughts below on the topics that come up in this post, for not only do I want you to be a better writer, but I do too! This was a fun question to answer since the questioner really gave me two questions in one here. So, how does one make money by writing about their life story? Let’s discuss.

Have Fun Writing About Yourself

As a writer myself I know how fun it can be to really put your work out there for the world to read, especially when it’s based on real life. I for one have done this with both my blog Christopher Sergi | Author , having a visible social media presence and finally, writing novels! The best bit!

So from your question, I gather you want to be a writer too, that’s great. If you want to make money from doing this however, there’s a few things you’re going to want to bare in mind. Making money from your writing means it has to have some form of value.

Your Life Story Must be Valuable

This value can be determined in a few ways depending on what sort of life story you want to tell and how you want to tell it. Are you writing this as autobiographical fiction? Are you writing this as a self help book based on your own life experiences? Once you’ve figured this out you’ll want to think about the value you’re going to bring to your readers.

Are you going to entertain them with a conflict heavy drama about your real life? Are you writing on experience and leaving your findings to your readers in a step by step guide on how to live by a certain lifestyle choice? Whatever it is you choose to write about, make sure there’s an audience for it, and make sure there’s some sort of enriching information or element they can take away from it.

Get Yourself Out There

If you’ve got a social media presence already, then great, you can use that to propel your story to your followers. If not, it might be a good idea to start so you can begin gaining traffic and if you don’t have a blog yet, well, you don’t need one as such but they are a writer’s best friend and they act as a great home for all your thoughts and notes where your stories can really shine. They’re mostly free and pretty easy to set up these days. WordPress by far is a great platform I use myself for my blog and I’ll always recommend it.

Good luck with your journey and throw me a message once you get the ball rolling. It would good to see your progress!

I really hope this has helped in your journey as a writer. A life journey can be amazing inspiration for creating uniqueness and realness in your writing.
